캐나다 토론토 대학교(B.A., M.A.)와 스웨덴 룬드 대학교(Th.D.)에서 공부했으며, 현재 캐나다 맥매스터 대학교에서 성서학을 가르치고 있다. 공관복음서 및 70인경에 관한 연구도 했지만, 웨스터홈의 주된 연구 분야는 바울 문헌이며, 특별히 바울에 관한 전통적 관점에서 해당 주제에 관한 새 관점을 주장하는 학자들과 대화하고 있다.
