멜리사 라파엘(1960?)은 대표적인 유대교 여성신학자로, 옥스퍼드대학교에서 기독교 신학을 공부하고 런던대학교 킹스칼리지에서 박사학위를 받은 후 글로스터셔대학교 신학 교수를 역임하고 현재 명예교수이다. 특이하게 대학에서 개신교 신학을 공부한 후 유대교 여성신학자가 된 저자는 이 책 The Female Face of God in Auschwitz (2003) 이외에도 Theology and Embodiment: The Post-Patriarchal Reconstruction of Female Sacrality (1996), Rudolf Otto and the Concept of Holiness (1997), Introducing Theology: Discourse on the Goddess (1999), Judaism and the Visual Image: A Jewish Theology of Art (2009), Religion, Feminism, and Idoloclasm: Being and Becoming in the Women’s Liberation Movement (2019)와 많은 논문을 발표했다.
