The current situation of Korean politics in English People around the world want to read books written in English about Korean politics, but it is not easy to find Korean politics books written in English in Korea. So Jongbin Yoon, a director of Center for Future Policy Studies, wrote a book in English about Korean politics. 『Korean Political System and Democracy』 is the result. As such, the first goal of the book is to provide an overall picture of Korean political process to scholars and readers abroad. The second goal of the book is to theoretically analyze Korean political system and to practically demonstrate the real political aspects of Korean National Assembly, political parties, elections and public opinions. It would be a meaningful contribution to the discipline of comparative politics to review Korean political system not only from a theoretical perspective but also from a practical aspect. The third purpose of the book is to provide the most updated data on the current issues of Korean politics. For those who need more updated and reliable knowledge on Korean politics may find useful information and insight out of this book. The chapters of the book are organized into thirteen parts. Each parts examine various issues of Korean politics both in theory and in practice. The key concepts dealt with in the book are as followings: democracy and democratization, Constitutions and power structures, party systems and electoral systems/laws, voting behavior, National Assembly, political culture and civil society, peace and security in the Korean Peninsula, and so on. Foreigners interested in Korean politics will be able to access various results of analyzing the Korean political system with the latest data throughout reading this book. 영어로 읽는 한국 정치 현황 세계 곳곳에서는 한국 정치를 영어로 다룬 책을 읽고 싶어하지만, 정작 한국에는 이런 요구를 충족시킬 만한 책을 찾기 쉽지 않다. 미래정책센터의 센터장 윤종빈은 그래서 한국 정치를 영어로 다룬 책을 썼다. 『Korean Political System and Democracy』가 그것이다. 그런 만큼 이 책의 첫 번째 목표는 해외의 학자들과 독자들에게 전반적인 한국의 정치 과정을 보여 주는 것이다. 이어 두 번째 목표는 한국 정치 시스템을 이론적으로 분석하고 한국 국회, 정당, 선거, 여론의 정치적 측면을 실질적으로 보여 주는 것이다. 한국 정치체제를 이론적인 관점뿐만 아니라 실질적인 측면으로도 재검토하는 것이 비교 정치학에 의미 있는 공헌이 될 것이다. 이 책의 세 번째 목표는 한국 정치의 현안에 대한 최신 자료를 제공하는 것이다. 한국 정치에 더욱 새롭고 믿을 만한 지식이 필요한 사람들은 이 책에서 유용한 정보와 통찰력을 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 책은 13장으로 이루어져 있다. 각 장은 이론적으로나 실질적으로 한국 정치의 다양한 문제들을 고찰한다. 이 책에서 다루는 핵심 개념들은 민주주의와 민주화, 헌법과 권력구조, 정당제도와 선거제도/법률, 투표행태, 국회, 정치문화와 시민사회, 한반도 평화와 안보 등이다. 한국 정치에 관심이 있는 외국인이라면 이 책을 읽는 내내 한국 정치 시스템을 최신 자료로 분석한 다양한 결과를 접할 수 있을 것이다.

윤종빈은 미래정책연구센터 소장이자 명지대학교 정치외교학과 전임교수로 재직 중이다. 그는 또한 국회와 연계된 한국의회발전연구회의 원장을 맡고 있다. 그의 연구 관심사는 선거 과정, 정당, 입법 행위, 민주주의 이론이다.

Jongbin Yoon is a director of Center for Future Policy Studies(http://cfps.co.kr) & a full professor in the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Myongji University, Seoul, Republic of Korea. He is also a President of Korea Legislative Studies Institute affiliated with Korean National Assembly(http://www.assembly.re.kr/).
His research interests are electoral process, political parties, legislative behavior and theories of democracy.
