A vital part of any artist’s practice is to stay informed about developments in their field, from innovations in style to new ways of using techniques and materials. A big challenge I often face in studying other artists is a lack of in-depth interviews and resources that engage firsthand with an artist’s philosophy, origin story, and the finer details of their workflow. Here Illustration speaks directly to this need, and takes it one step beyond, allowing the reader to encounter contemporary illustrators, their workspaces, and their process in book form, in a print medium that affords deeper, more meaningful browsing - a more focused counterpoint to the flow of social media and digital formats. After reading through Here Illustration, I felt like I got to sit in on several long, thoughtful conversations with working illustrators, tour their process, delve into their influences, and leave with new perspectives for how to strengthen my own practice and better navigate the industry. I'm certain a similar journey awaits its next reader, be it a working professional or a student of illustration.
