소개

대규모 언어 데이터를 바탕으로 한 파열음 음운유형론 연구 이 책은 전 세계 4,356개 언어에서 발견된 파열음의 목록을 검토하여 음운 특성을 도출한다. 조음의 위치와 조음 방식, 음운 대립과 같은 다양한 주제를 다루는데 특히 파열음 연구에 도움이 되도록 다양한 통계적 결과를 표와 그림으로 제시한다는 특징이 있다. 파열음의 유형학적 경향을 대규모 언어 데이터 기반으로 명확하게 밝히고 있다. 저자는 10여 년 전부터 음운유형론 연구를 위한 데이터를 조금씩 수집했고, 4,356개 언어의 파열음 목록과 특징을 간략하게 논의한 Inventories of the Plosive in the World's Languages를 2020년 출간하며 파열음 유형에 관한 심도 있는 연구를 할 것을 약속했다. Phonological Typology of Plosives는 그 약속의 결과이다. 어떤 주제에 대해 4,300개 이상의 언어를 살피는 연구는 드물다. 대규모 언어 데이터를 기반으로 한 유형학 데이터와 연구는 파열음 이외의 주제에도 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다. Phonological Typology of Plosives는 음운유형론 연구에 많은 화두를 제공할 것으로 보인다. This book contains the result of reviewing the plosive inventories in languages around the world. By analyzing plosive phonemes found in 4,356 languages, their phonological characteristics were derived. A variety of topics are covered, such as the place and manner of articulation, preferred inventories and phonological opposition. In particular, various statistical results are presented in many Tables and Figures to help research on plosives. The typological tendency of plosives will be clearly revealed based on large-scale language data.

부산에서 나고 자랐으며, 서울대학교 국어국문학과에서 문학사(1995년), 문학 석사(1997년), 문학 박사(2002년) 학위를 받았다. 세부 전공은 한국어 음운론이다. 전남대학교 국어국문학과 교수로 근무했으며(2003~2017년), 현재 서울대학교 국어국문학과 교수로 재직 중이다. 지은 책으로는 Phonological Typology of Plosives(2022년), 『국어 음운론 용어 사전』(2017년), 『국어 음운론 강의』, 『통시적 음운 변화의 공시적 기술』, 『국어 음운 교육 변천사』, 『한국어의 표준 발음과 현실 발음』, 『한국어 방언 연구』(역), 『한국 한자음의 연구』(역), 『한국 한자음 연구-본문편-』(역), 『小倉進平과 국어 음운론』(공역), 『「언어」의 구축-小倉進平과 식민지 조선-』(공역) 등이 있다.

Jinho Lee is a professor at Seoul National University. His main research topic is Korean phonology, and he plans to study Korean phonology from the perspective of linguistic typology. In 2020, he wrote Inventories of the Plosive in the World′s Languages.
