미국의 대표적인 교육전문 출판사 Scholastic의 Hello Reader 시리즈는 수준별로 세분화되어 있고, 다양한 분야를 소재로 하여 아이들이 부담없이 책을 읽으면서 영어를 익힐 수 있게 하는 교재로 난이도에 따라 5단계로 나뉘어 있다. Hello Reader 시리즈는 엄마의 기대 이상으로 아이들이 좋아하는 책이다. 책의 내용들이 아이의 흥미를 끄는 요소가 많으며 무엇보다도 엄마가 직접 부담없이 읽어줄 수 있는 문장들이 많아서 더욱 그 활용도가 높은, 단계별로 아주 알차게 엮어진 시리즈 이다. My First와 Level 1 에서는 비교적 짧은 문장을 통해 영어의 기본 문법구조와 어휘, 표현 등을 익힐 수 있게 하며, Level 2 이상에서는 언어의 활용도가 확대 심화되어 과학, 수학, 인물, 스포츠 등 다양한 분야의 글을 접할 수 있다. 1. 문장이 쉽고 간단하며 단어 학습을 위한 플래시 카드가 들어 있다. 2. 책 뒷 부분에 6페이지 분량의 액티비티가 수록되었다. 3. 문장의 길이와 내용의 수준에 따라 5단계로 분류된다. 4. 먼저 부모가 어린이에게 책을 읽어 주면 어린이는 익혀서 부모에게 읽어 보이고, 이러한 과정을 통해 어린이는 책 읽기를 즐기게 된다. * 활용법(기본) 1. 선생님이나 엄마(이후, 엄마로 통일)와 같이 책을 보자. 먼저 아이에게 책 제목을 읽게 하고 책 줄거리 한번 같이 상상해 보자. 2. 엄마와 그림을 보면서 어떤 내용 일까 같이 상상해 보자. 2. 아이가 스스로 본문을 엄마 앞에서 읽어 봅니다. 모르는 단어나 표현은 엄마가 도와준다. 3. 엄마와 아이가 동시에 같이 읽거나 Audio CD와 함께 따라 읽어 본다. 4. 책을 다 읽고 아이가 책에 있는 에피소드나 줄거리를 이야기 해보자. 5. 책에 있는 단어나 표현에 대해서 아이가 제대로 알고 있는지 이해했는지 질문을 해 보자. 6. 아이가 책에 정을 붙이고 여러 번 스스로 읽을 수 있는, Audio CD를 스스로 들을 수 있는 환경을 만들어준다 . |
