When speaking of Kwangju we still talk with hesitation and fear, solemnity and secrecy. What does Kwangju of May 1980 mean to us? History's judgement has changed with the passing of time. For us today, Kwangju of May 1980 is the palce of autonomous movement by the minjung(grassroots people), who struggle against the inhuman violance of the oppressive social structure of the 1960s and 1970s. The notion of Kwangjoo also became the driving force behind the development of organizational strength and minjung movements in Korea.
