서울대학교 문리대 및 환경대학원을 졸업하고, 한국과학기술 연구소에서 도시계획연구원으로 근무하였다. 호주로 건너가 Sydney University에서 박사 학위를 받은 후, 호주 이민부(Department of Immigration and Eghnic Affairs)에서 근무하였으며, The Sydney Korean Post(교민신문)을 창간하여 운영하였다. 한국에 귀국한 후로는 서울대학교 환경계획 연구소에서 중앙대학교 신문방송대학원에서 교수를 역임했다. 현재는 여러 권의 영어학습서를 집필하면서 영어 교육에 기여하고 있다. 영국의 세계적인 영어 학습서 출판사인 Collins Cob
