Joseph Mazur

미국 말보로 대학의 수학과 석좌교수이다. 어린 시절을 보낸 파리에서 수학자들의 비밀집단인 부르바키의 멤버 클로드 슈발리에, 로저 고드망에게서 수학을 공부했다. 1972년 매사추세츠 공과대학(MIT)에서 대수기하학으로 수학 박사학위를 받았다. MIT와 워릭 대학교에서 방문연구원을 지냈으며, 2006년에는 구겐하임 펠로우십을 2008년에는 록펠러재단의 벨라지오 펠로우십을 받았다. 지은 책으로는 『밀림으로 간 유클리드』『수학기호의 역사』 등이 있다.
