SAT에 출제되는 단어 수준은 ‘원어민 영어 선생님이 사전을 이용하지 않고 책이나 신문을 읽을 정도’이기 때문에 SAT를 대비하기 위해서는 대략 20,000개의 단어를 알고 있어야 한다. 단어 20,000개를 외우기 위해서는 산술적으로 계산해보더라도 하루에 55개 정도를 1년 동안 꾸준히 익혀야 하는 방대한 분량이다. 하지만 SAT에 출제되는 단어는 정해져 있기 때문에 너무 걱정할 필요는 없다. Master of SAT [Vocabulary]에서 소개하는 단어들만 확실하게 이해한다면 그것으로 충분하다.
Part 1 | Ubiquitous Word Groups 1. Definitions(의미적) & Dictionaries(사전적) 단어 설명이 색다르다! 괄호( ) 밖의 뜻은 ‘영영사전’의 뜻으로 ‘사전적 의미’를 나타내고 괄호( ) 안의 설명은 이 표제어가 갖는 배경적·어원적 의미이다. 때문에 ‘영영시전’이나 ‘영한사전’이 줄 수 없는 폭넓고 정확한 지식을 얻을 수 있다. 2. 각 표제어의 [True & False]를 통해 자신이 공부한 어휘를 체크할 수 있다. 3. 각 표제어에는 예문을 2개 실었다. 예문의 볼드처리된 부분은 특정 어원을 표시하며 Part 2와 관련하여 반복학습이 가능하다. Part 2 | Frequent Root Groups 1. 어원 학습의 가장 큰 장점은 ‘짧은 시간 안에 많은 단어를 쉽게 익혀 오래 기억할 수 있다’는 것이다. 2. More Words에는 SAT에서 단골로 출제되는 어휘 이외에도 반드시 알아야 할 고급어휘(GRE, GMAT)가 실려 있다. Part 3 | Confusing 60 Words 1. 헷갈리는 영어 단어를 구별할 수 있는 능력은 비단 SAT뿐 아니라 모든 영어 시험에서 고득점을 획득하기 위해서는 반드시 필요하다. 이 책에서는 ① 의미와 형태가 비슷하여 혼동되는 단어와 ② 발음이 비슷한 단어를 정리했다. 2. Quick Check를 풀면서 다시 한번 자신이 학습한 어휘를 정리해보자! [단계별 어휘 학습 플랜] 1단계 : Part 1과 Part 2에서 자신이 이미 알고 있다고 생각되는 단어를 하고 본문의 설명과 비교해본다. 2단계 : 목차를 참고하여 자신의 부족한 부분을 점검한다. 3단계 : Part 1과 Part 2를 연결시켜 제1, 2단계에서 빠진 부분을 집중적으로 학습한다. 4단계 : Part 3를 공부한 후 아직까지 이해하지 못한 단어를 집중적으로 암기한다. |
