저자는 고등학교 시절, 일찌감치 네 가지 사실을 깨달았다. 첫째 생물학은 항상 A학점이라는 것, 둘째 재치있고 똑똑학 놈은 항상 선생님들의 눈 밖에 나기 때문에 딴 짓 할 시간이 많다는 것, 셋째 여자에 대한 호기심이 왕성하다는 것, 넷째 쿼크(Quirk)라는 이름처럼 본인이 변덕스럽과 기상천외하다는 사실이었다. 그때부터 저자는 자신의 이런 특이점들을 조합하여 남녀관계에 대한 특별한 책을 쓰기로 결심했다

2006년 미국에서 이 책이 출간된 이후 그는 진화생물학으로 남녀 심리를 파헤친 최고의 전문가가 됐으며 꾸준한 강연을 통해 이 분야를 널리 알리고 있다. 문학과 서양문명발달사, 진화생물학을 진지하게 연구한 저자는 그동안 수많은 정자를 뿌리며 유인원으로서의 본분에 충실했지만 결혼과 동시에 일부일처의 세계로 접어들었다. 현재 부인과 두 마리의 고양이와 함께 미국의 북캘리포니아에 거주하며 남녀관계에 대한 또다른 책 'Tools are from men, Talks is from women'을 집필 중이다. 이 외에도 소설 『최후의 질주』등을 썼다.

Author Biography: About Joe Quirk, in his own words:
"I studied literature and minored in Development of Western Civilization at Providence College, taught partially by Dominican priests who had no sense of humor when it came to my biological observations about celibacy. I graduated at the top of the bottom tenth of my class. I attended one year of law school, so I only lost one third of my soul, which is just enough to function in the American society. I invested the last 7 years of my novel royalties in reading evolutionary biology studies, full-time. Now finally I feel ready to ask a woman on a date."
