전직 [뉴욕 타임즈New york Times] 과학부 기자로 현재 뉴욕 주 이스트햄프턴에서살고 있다. 그는[디스커버Discover], [라이프Life], [뉴요커 Newyorker], [하버드Harvard], [오드본Audubon] 등 유명 잡지에 현재 진행중인 과학 연구와 과학의 역사에 관한 글을 기고해 왔다.

대표작인 『경도 이야기Longitude』는 전세계적인 베스트셀러로 24개국에서 번역 출간되었다. 뿐만 아니라 미국 예술 문학 아카데미에서 수여하는 'Harold D.
