평화 사랑 이야기

다양한 세계 안에서 살아가는 우리는 인종도 다르고 종교도 다르며 빈부의 차이도 있습니다. 과거에 ‘전쟁’을 경험한 나라도 있고 ‘전쟁’이 현재진행형인 나라도 있습니다. ‘전쟁’은 또 다른 어떤 모습으로 언제 어디서 나타날지 모르는 ‘지뢰’같은 것입니다. 각 나라마다, 또 개인마다 ‘전쟁’에 대하여 생각하는 것은 다릅니다. 전쟁에서 가족을 잃고 남겨진 가족의 슬픔, 전쟁이 가져다 준 가난의 극심한 고통, 개와 고양이 간의 다툼과 전쟁, 이웃집 간의 갈등으로 빚은 전쟁, 이 모든 것이 각자의 삶 속의 전쟁입니다.

그러나 우리 모두는 이런 갈등, 폭력, 전쟁이 없는 평화로운 세계에서 살고 싶어 합니다. 인류의 긍정적 덕목인 우정, 박애, 사랑, 행복, 타협, 협력, 조화 등에 의해 평화는 만들어질 수 있지만 평화를 갈구 한다 해도 인류의 부정적 측면인 증오, 절망, 감정적 원한과 사회, 경제적으로 부정적 요인인 기아, 빈곤, 불평등, 차별, 오염 등은 완전히 사라지지 않아 적대감을 불러일으키고 결국 전쟁과 폭력으로 이어집니다. 이러한 상황은 인류의 미래인 어린이들을 희생양으로 몰아넣는 원인이 되고 맙니다. 우리는 세계 분쟁 지역에서 어린이들이 겪는 참상에 대한 책임이 있습니다. 때때로 평화로운 선진 사회에서도 어떤 어린이들은 비참한 생활을 하거나 가학으로부터 보호받지 못하고 있습니다. 우리는 어린이들을 모든 가혹 행위와 고통으로부터 보호해야 합니다.

아만카야는 전쟁에서 죽어가는 아이들의 이야기를 들을 때나 거리에서 빵 한 조각을 구걸하는 아이를 볼 때, 세상에는 평화의 바람이 불어갈 수 있는 네 구석이 있어야 한다고 생각한다. 아만카야는 그런 네 구석을 찾을 수 있기를 바란다. 그리고 그 네 구석은 다른 어린이들의 도움이 있어야 찾을 수 있고 또 평화의 바람이 불어갈 수 있다는 것을 안다.

이 책은 매우 아름다운 책입니다. 우리가 가장 바라면서도 이룰 수 없는 이상, 즉 ‘사람들은 평화롭게 살아야 한다.’는 생각에 바쳐진 책입니다.

『평화이야기』는 전쟁과 가난으로 고통 받는 사람들의 모습을 그리면서도 평화에 대한 꿈을 잃지 않는 순수한 내면을 보여줍니다. 평화의 바람이 불어갈 수 있는 네 구석을 만들어 의식을 행하는 볼리비아 사람들. 그들은 ‘전쟁’에 대한 고통을 신에게 의지해 평화를 소망합니다.
평화를 꿈꾸는 사람들에게는 국경과 인종, 종교의 벽이 보이지 않습니다. 그들은 각자가 받는 ‘전쟁’의 고통에서 벗어나 행복해지길 바랄 뿐입니다. 그들은 평화를 사랑하기 때문이지요.
이 책은 평화는 곧 어린아이의 순수함이고 꽃과 같은 자연이라고 말합니다. 그러나 어른의 폭력과 갈등, 총과 칼이 이들을 짓밟고 있는 현실입니다. 그러나 우리 어린이는, 또 우리는 좌절하지 않습니다. 함께하는 마음이 곧 ‘평화’를 줄 수 있다는 것을 알기 때문입니다.
평화는 국가의 노력만으로 달성되고 유지될 수 없으며, 오히려 평화를 만들어가고 유지하는 가장 효과적인 방법은 평화의 문화적 가치를 전파 시키는 것입니다. 평화를 위한 문화적 접근은 예술가와 작가들의 평화 촉진 노력이 절대적으로 필요함을 깨닫게 하는 계기가 될 것입니다.

We all live in different circumstances; cultural, religious, racial, There are huge gaps between rich and poor. Some countries have been through war while others are at war now. War is like a mine that can explode anytime and anywhere.

Each country and each individual have different point of views from which to understand war: from example, the authors write of the grief of separated families and children from wars and extreme poverty, cats and dogs fight, they tell of the unhappiness that comes from disagreements with neighbors and friends. These are wars we are living in our daily lives.

However, people wish to live in a world without these wars, without violence, and in peace. Peace can be maintained by human virtues such as friendship, humanity, love, happiness, and cooperation. On the other hand, hatred, hopelessness, poverty, inequality, discrimination, and pollution can destroy peace, and cause the hostility that causes wars and privation.

These things cause the misery of wars that mean great sacrifices by our children and of our future. We all are responsible for the consequences of war.

"When Amancaya hears about children dying in wars, when she sees a child grovelling on the street for a piece of bread, she thinks there must be four corners in the world to which peace can be blown. She wishes she could find those four corners.
She knows she can only find these corners with a help of other children and blow peace into them."

Peace Story is a beautiful picture book, and is devoted to the most desirable, yet it perhaps unreachable ideology, that is: "People should live in peace."

This book describes 'Peace' as if it has the purity of a child or a flower. Yet, adults ruins its beauty with reality.

The most effective way to maintain and accomplish peace is to propagate its cultural value. Building peace in terms of culture will surely encourage artists to be aware of the importance of their efforts toward peace.
