An Young No is Professor of Department of Psychology, Chonnam National University. He received his M.A. in counseling psychology from Seoul National University, 1983 and his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Kentucky, 1993. He is a certified counseling psychologist of Korean Counseling Psychology Association, a certified counseling supervisor of Korean Counseling Association, and a certified trainer of Active Parenting. He is a trustee of Korean Counseling Psychological Association, Korean School Counseling Association, and Korean Child/Adolescent Counseling Association. He is an editor of Korean Journal of Counseling and Psychotherapy, and the Korea Journal of Counseling. He is a president of Korean Adlerian Counseling Association.
His main concern and interest area is to explore basic assets, attitudes, wisdom that an effective counseling psychologist must have, and to construct and develop education, training, and supervision programs for counselors. His counseling approach is broadly humanistic approach and he uses diverse techniques of Adlerian counseing, Person-Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Existential Counseling according to clients’ age and presenting problems. He basically believes that all counseling approaches are paradoxical and counselors use paradoxical techniques.
Recently he is interested in developing a group counseling program appling paradoxical techniques based on Gestalt Therapy and Zen. And he is involving in developing a self-encouragement group counseling program based on Individual Psychology.
