첼리스트, 연세대학교 음악대학 관현악과 교수, 런던의 로얄아카데미오브뮤직(RAM) 초빙교수, 제4대 평창대관령음악제 예술감독. 일곱 살에 첼로를 시작해 야노스 슈타커를 사사했다. 세계 무대에서 솔리스트 및 실내악 연주자로 활발한 활동을 펼치며 ‘한국 첼로의 자존심’으로 평가받고 있다. 올해의 예술상, 대원음악연주상, 객석예술인상을 수상했고, 2017년 프랑스 정부로부터 슈벨리에 문화예술공로훈장을 받았다. Decca, EMI 레이블에서 다수의 앨범을 발표했다.
