Robert Stickgold

하버드대학교를 졸업하고 위스콘신-매디슨대학교에서 생화학 박사학위를 취득했다. 이후 수면과 인지, 꿈, 의식 상태 등을 연구했다. 여러 유명 매체에 수면 부족의 위험을 경고하는 글을 기고하기도 했다. 현재 하버드의과대학 교수이자 수면인지센터 총괄책임자다. 수면 연구의 권위자로 주로 수면과 학습의 관계를 연구하고 있다. 지은 책으로는 국내에서 처음 소개된 이 책과 『수면의 신경과학(The Neuroscience of Sleep)』이 있다.
