미국 조지아대학교 정치학과에서 국제정치 전공으로 박사학위를 받았으며, West Liberty University 조교수와 통일연구원 부연구위원을 거쳐 현재 부경대학교 국제지역학부 교수로 재직 중이다. 주요 논문으로 “The Struggle between Security and Democracy: An Alternative Explanation of the Democratization of South Korea”, Pacific Focus (April, 2010), “Risk-Taking or Risk-Aversive: Understanding North Korea’s Foreign Policyof Brinkmanship”, Korea Observer (Autumn, 2011) 등이 있다.
