She regretted that many widely read fairy tales with female protagonists featured the girls marrying aristocrats and then living happily ever after. Instead, she wanted to write a fairy tale about an independent girl in charge of her own life. The protagonist Aina valiantly follows her own path to recover what she has lost and doesn’t give up despite the hardships she endures. In the process, she meets creatures from the sky, sea, and land hurt by humankind's greed and disinterest and strives with all her heart to save them. Aina faces a perilous journey as she encounters people in a city filled with hate, nearly drowns, is swept up in a cyclone, and is chased by a monster. But Aina remembers her talks with her grandmother, who revealed to her the value of nature and the power of love, and with that she overcomes her trials and finally cleanses the polluted world. She doesn't shrink back from difficulties as she saves those in pain. A Story Crafted by Mothers and Children Together

Like its predecessor The Magic Cafe that Cooks up Dreams, Aina the Healer is a book that perfectly reflects the thoughts of actual elementary students. The author collected opinions from a readers’ committee consisting of eight mothers and their daughters while writing the story. She also took feedback from 50 elementary school students to complete the manuscript. As readers actively participated in the writing of this book, the structure and portrayals are tightly woven and at just the right level for children.
