초등교사로 교직을 시작하였으며, 특수학급 교사로 아이들과 행복하고 유익한 시간을 보내고, 좀 더 큰 뜻을 품고 대학 강단에서 예비특수교사들과 씨름하고 있는 교수이다. 특수교육에서의 교과 교육에 관심이 많고 특히 수학 교육에 관심이 매우 커서, 현장 특수교사들과 수학 교육에 관한 이야기를 나눌 기회가 있으면 전국 어디든 서슴지 않고 달려간다. 이 외에도 수업 연구, 특수교육공학, 통합교육에 대한 연구나 강의를 오래도록 지속해오고 있다. 2015와 2022 개정 기본 교육과정 수학과 교육과정 개발의 연구책임자로 활동하였으며, 2011, 2015 개정 기본 교육과정 수학과 중고등학교
