미국의 역사 작가. 스미스 대학에서 문학을 전공했고 가우처 대학에서 교육학 석사 학위와 명예박사 학위를 받았다. 뉴욕, 오마하, 네브래스카 등에서 학교 선생님으로 있었으며, 이후 신문기자와 편집자로 일했다. 1993년에 조이 해킴이 쓴 첫 번째 책 《미국의 역사(A History of US)》 시리즈는 설득력 있는 이야기체로 쓰여 있으며, 이 책을 읽고 미국의 많은 학생들과 선생님들이 감명을 받았다. 그녀는 현재 콜로라도 주에 살고 있으며, 세 명의 아이와 다섯 명의 손자를 두고 있다.
