The Frog saw the monkey stuffing himself with the bananas. He called out to the monkey,

The fight began! The two roosters pounced on each other. The rest of the chickens watched anxiously. They were hoping that Chuck would win the fight. But Doodle was stronger. Chuck was pounced many times. He was no match for the powerful Doodle.

The dove saw the ant struggling to stay afloat on the leaf. She felt sorry for the little ant.
"Hold on tight." the dove told the ant.
"I am going to pick up the leaf and carry you to land."

"Where, where is it? Where is the wolf?" the men asked in alarm.

추천평

어릴 적에 저도 『이솝우화』를 읽으면서 많은 시간을 보냈습니다. 그 세우러은 저만치 흘러가 버렸지만, 좋은 이야기는 여전히 마음 속에 남아 있습니다. 여기에 등장하는 수많은 토끼와 사자와 호랑이와 원숭이들과 함께 말입니다. 우화는 단순히 동물 나라의 우스꽝스런 이야기만을 들려주는 게 아닙니다. 전세계의 어른들이 어린이들에게 우화를 권하는 까닭은 무엇일까요?
그것은 동물 이야기 속에 사람살이가 은근히 깃들여 있기 때문일 것입니다. 이 세상을 나 혼자의 힘만으로는 살아갈 수 없다는 것, 서로 어울려 살아가는 게 참된 삶이라는 것을 가르쳐주기 때문일 것입니다.
저는 우리 어린이들이 우화를 읽으면서 사람과 사람 사이의 관계가 무엇보다 중요하다는 것을 깨닫게 되기를 바랍니다. 그러한 어린이들이 만들어 가는 세상은 분명 신나고 아름다운 곳이 될 것입니다.
