1960년 서울에서 태어나 고려대학교 사학과를 졸업하고 같은 대학원에서 한국사를 공부했다. 1990년대 초부터 교양역사책 집필을 계속하며 다양한 역사책을 출간하고 있다. 딸 세운이가 초등학교 3학년이 되던 무렵, 사줄만한 역사책이 없다고 느낀 작가는 직접 어린이의 눈높이에 맞는 역사책을 쓰기 시작했고 3년여에 걸쳐 『한국사 편지』를 완성했다. 2004년 제45회 백상출판문화상 어린이청소년상을 받았다. 지은 책으로 『엄마의 역사 편지 1,2』『박은봉 이광희 선생님의 한국사 상식 바로잡기 1』『한국사 100장면』『세계사 100장면』『한국사 상식 바로잡기』『한국사 뒷이야기』『세계사 뒷
