In the age of AI, the author began thinking about how to help young children approach mathematics in a simple, natural, and enjoyable way. As a first step, she turned to the abacus, hoping to create meaningful opportunities to learn and grow together with her grandchildren.
As she introduced numbers one by one to her two grandchildren, she was inspired to create a book that would help young children learn the abacus easily and joyfully through stories and illustrations.
Her hope is that numbers will feel not like studying, but like play—and that as children move the abacus beads with their little hands, they will develop confidence, curiosity, and the ability to think and solve problems.
