The ships sailed of for many days. The sailors were afraid because they could see only water all around them. They could not see any land.

The sailors said, "The Admiral will not listen to us. He will not turn back and sail for Palos. We will throw him into the sea. Then we will sail back to Palos again!"

Christopher Columbus heard the men of the Santa Maria talking. He did not want to go back Spain before he had found land.
