작고, 어두운 곳을 향해
황규관 신작 시집 『호랑나비』

한국어와 영어로 동시에 만나는 K-포엣 20번째 시집으로 황규관의 『호랑나비』가 출간되었다. 1993년 전태일문학상을 수상하며 작품활동을 시작하여 『철산동 우체국』 『물은 제 길을 간다』 『패배는 나의 힘』 『태풍을 기다리는 시간』 『정오가 온다』 『이번 차는 그냥 보내자』 등의 시집을 펴냈다. 현실 세계에서 벗어나지 않은 곳에서 시적인 울림을 만들어내는 시인의 역량이 이번 시집에서도 드러난다. 특히 이번 시집 『호랑나비』에는 부서진 세계를 살아가는 우리의 영혼을 어떻게 가꾸고 보존해나갈 것인지를 고민하는 시인의 목소리가 실려 있다.

It seems that those waves
Are somehow raised up by billions of lives.
They seem like outstretched hands,
Inviting even the sunlight to a dance along with them.

어쩔 수 없이 육체는 점차 낡아가지만 그럼에도 영혼은 낡지 않도록 부단히 애쓸 수 있다. 그에게 시 쓰기는 그런 실천 중 하나인지도 모른다. 그러한 실천은 다시 육체를 돌아보는 데에도 도움이 된다. 부서진 세계를 도저히 견뎌낼 수 있을 것 같지 않은 작은 것들에게서 번쩍이며 생동하는 힘을 발견하는 것도 시인의 일이다. 그 작은 힘들을 계속하여 재발견하면서 그의 시는 더욱 깊어지고 독자의 마음속에도 작은 파문을 일으킨다. “어떻게 하면 시가 현실 세계를 바꿀 수 있을까”를 탐구하는 시인의 에세이도 만나볼 수 있다.

안도현, 백석, 허수경을 시작으로 한국을 대표하는 시인의 시편을 모아 영문으로도 번역하여 출간하고 있다. 영문 시집은 해외 온라인 서점 등에서도 판매되며 한국시에 관심을 갖는 해외 독자들의 마음도 사로잡을 예정이다.

Creating poems as an act of creating a new truth is more like a dynamic
action of a body. Further, this action enables a movement in which poems
become “something” in reality on their own. That is, a poet’s role is to enable
a poem to arise on its own and carry out movements, and thus a poet is a
medium to reveal poems in language by being possessed by them. Yet
poems are not something a transcendental being bestows upon us from
above, but are like the lightning created during the clash of concrete real
