저자 소개

데이비드 흄 (David Hume)
1711~1776. 영국의 철학자, 역사가. 스코틀랜드 에든버러(Edinburgh) 출생.
존 로크(John Locke)의 경험론적 인식론(認識論)을 계승하여 철저한 경험론의 입장에서 종래의 형이상학(形而上學)을 적극 비판, 실체나 인과(因果) 따위의 관념은 심리적 연상(聯想)에 불과하다고 보았다. 역사가로서는 계몽주의(啓蒙主義)의 입장을 취하였다. 주요 저서에 『인성론 A Treatise of Human Nature』(1740) 『인간 오성론 An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding』(1748) 『영국사 The History of England』(1754?1762) 『자연종교에 관한 대화 Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion』(1779) 등이 있다.
