저자 소개

Anthony Trollope (1815?1882) was one of the major English novelists of the Victorian era, known for his realistic and perceptive portrayals of politics, society, class, marriage, money, and human relationships. He worked for many years for the British Post Office while pursuing his literary career, and his remarkably disciplined writing routine enabled him to produce more than forty novels during his lifetime. His best-known works include the Chronicles of Barsetshire, which portray the clergy and social life of a fictional English county, and the Palliser novels, which explore political ambition, power, love, and marriage. Rather than relying on sensational events, Trollope focused on ordinary choices and social conflicts, revealing human vanity, desire, conscience, and compromise with humor and psychological insight. Popular with readers during his lifetime, he is now regarded as one of the most important realist novelists for understanding the social and political world of nineteenth-century Britain.
