FOOTNOTES:

저자 소개

John Ruskin was one of the most influential English art critics and social thinkers of the nineteenth century, known for connecting art, architecture, and labor with the meaning of human life. He strongly criticized the machine-centered society created by the Industrial Revolution and worried that human creativity and emotional depth were gradually disappearing in modern civilization. Through major works such as Modern Painters and The Stones of Venice, he argued that art was not merely decoration but a reflection of the moral and spiritual condition of society. Ruskin’s ideas later inspired the Arts and Crafts Movement as well as modern design philosophy, making his influence extend far beyond traditional art criticism. He believed that true beauty could be found not in luxury or excess but in nature, honest work, and a sincere human life.
