Honore de Balzac(1799?1850) was a French novelist who vividly portrayed nineteenth-century society and human desire, bringing many of his novels together in The Human Comedy, a vast collection exploring lives across different social classes. His best-known works include Pere Goriot, Eugenie Grandet, and Lost Illusions, in which he examined how money, power, love, and ambition shape people’s lives through keen observation and detailed descriptions. His works helped establish French literary realism and continue to be widely read today.
