저자 소개

Voltaire (1694?1778) was a French philosopher, writer, and historian, recognized as a leading figure of the Enlightenment. Born Francois-Marie Arouet, he was renowned for his critical thinking and satirical works that challenged the societal, political, and religious institutions of his time.
He was a staunch advocate for individual freedom and freedom of expression. His notable work, Candide, satirized unbridled optimism and religious hypocrisy, sparking social criticism and philosophical debate. Voltaire emphasized rational thought and argued against fanaticism and prejudice. He also promoted religious tolerance, legal fairness, and vigilance against the abuse of power, playing a pivotal role in disseminating Enlightenment ideas.
His works and ideas significantly influenced the French Revolution and the development of modern democracy. Today, his insights into freedom and justice continue to inspire many.
